１、どうして翻訳者になられましたか？また翻訳経験年数を教えてください。
I have about 7 years of translation experience. I had never thought that I would become a translator one day. After completing my post graduation studies, I joined a large IT company. Since I was dealing with customers from Japan, I started learning Japanese. Later I was transferred to Japan and I continued learning Japanese. Though my job was not of a translator, I used to occasionally translate emails and other technical documents. I found it quite interesting and started taking up Japanese into English translation assignments about 7 years back.

Education:
Bachelor of Engineer (Chemical Engineering)
Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (equivalent to MBA)
Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 1
Passed Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 1 exam
Professional Experience:
(1) HCL Technologies Limited. (India, 2001 - 2003)
Designation: Assistant Manager - Marketing
(2) HCL Japan Limited (Japan, 2004 - 2006)
Designation: Business Development Manager
(3) Leading Japanese Semiconductor Company (Tokyo, 2007 - 2012)
Designation: Assistant Manager - Purchasing Division

３、翻訳をするときに一番気をつけている点とその理由を教えてください。
* Instead of literal translation, I try to translate such that it is easy to read and understand without losing the meaning of the original sentence.
* Using the appropriate vocabularly. Same word may be translated in multiple ways in different industries. Using the approprite vocabulary as per the industry ensures better translation quality.
* Understanding the overall flow and structuring of the souce document. This helps me in grasping the overall context and producing a very easy to read translation.
４、過去の翻訳で一番印象に残っている翻訳はどんなものでしたか。
I once translated a business proposal from Japanese into English. This business proposal was about a Japanese company wanting to form a joint venture with overseas company. Business proposal touched upon various items such as technical description of the product, commercial details, legal terms and conditions etc. My translation was highly appreciated by the client and later I also came to know that they could successfully form a joint venture company. I felt really happy that my translation actually helped the client in his business.
５、スランプに陥ったことはありますか？
I did experience some downturn in business after the collapse of Lehman Brothers. It took about 4-5 months for me to come out of the downturn.
６、翻訳業の魅力とは？
Everyday is filled with opportunities to learn new things. As a freelancer, it offers me flexibility to take up assignments as per my schedule.
