本学では、4月から8月の春学期と9月から3月の秋学期、それぞれ15週のセメスター制を採用している。秋学期中、7.5週間の冬期プログラムがあり、学生は勉強の遅れを取り戻したり、自分の学習計画をより深めたりすることができる。原則的に、科目の開講期間は1学期間であり、1学期間の学習の状況に基づいて学生の単位修得・成績付けがなされる。EAP修了後、学生はカリキュラムに示されている履修の仕方に基づき、それぞれが学びたい科目を選択し、履修することができる。
平成17年度、EAPプログラムは、他の科目と異なる日程で実施された。春学期においては、全てのレベルの科目が15週間を1学期として開講したが、秋学期においては、前半の7.5週経過後に次のレベルに進む機会が与えられた。この7.5週経過時にEAPを修了した学生に対しては、秋学期後半7.5週で完結する科目と、秋学期後半に冬学期7.5週を加えた15週間で実施する基盤教育科目を提供した。

The academic year of AIU is divided into two parts of 15 weeks respectively. Spring Semester, from April to August, and Fall Semester, from September to March. During the Fall Semester, AIU provides an optional Winter Program of 7.5 weeks so that students can catch up on their studies or enhance the quality of their own program of studies. Generally, each course runs for one semester and grades and credits earned by students are based on their study performance over that semester. After the completion of EAP, each student can select the courses they would like to take, using the knowledge gained from EAP program ‘how to choose a course’ information.
In 2005, the EAP Program was held on a different schedule from that of other courses. In the Spring Semester, all levels of the curriculum were held on a 15-week semester basis. After the first half (7.5 weeks) of the Fall Semester, the chance to advance to the next level was given. At this time, for students who had completed the EAP Program, a 15 week Basic Education curriculum was provided comprised of 7.5 week courses in the latter half of the Fall Semester coupled with 7.5 week courses in the Winter Semester.
