近年,世界的に放送のデジタル化が進み,放送メディアにとっての大きな変革期である。デジタル放送は高精細の映像や双方向機能,データ放送といった新しいサービスを視聴者に提供しているが,音声サービスについても品質の向上に加え,5.1サラウンドのような高付加価値サービスが始まっている。
放送は,ニュース,スポーツ,ドラマ,バラエティ,音楽番組など多種多様なジャンルの番組が連続して編成されている。また,地上波,ＢＳ,ＣＳとテレビのチャンネル数の増加は著しく,放送される番組数は格段に増大している。そのような中,番組やチャンネルごとに音声のレベル差が生じており,視聴者が番組の切り替えやチャンネルの選択時に,適正な音量で視聴するためにテレビの音量を調整する操作が必要となっている。番組間の音量レベルが異なる原因は,放送局やプロダクションにおける制作段階で生じていると考えられる。そこで,このような問題を解決するために,
1.番組間,チャンネル間の音声のレベル差の現状,
2.番組ジャンル別の聴感とVU計の振れ方,
3.ミクシング時のモニター音量とミクシングバランスの関係,
4.視聴者の家庭におけるテレビの受聴音量,の４項目について調査した。
その結果,ミクシング担当者によらず,番組間の音量レベル差を少なくする音声制作手法や,ナレーションとBGMが最適にバランスのとれたミクシングを実現するための手法について一定の指針を得ることができた。これらの手法により,視聴者にとって聞きやすい番組の制作を実現することができる。
番組間,チャンネル間の音声レベル差の現状
家庭のテレビで番組を視聴しているシーンにおいて,番組が切り替わったときや,視聴者がチャンネルを切り替えたときに音量が異なって聞こえることがある。視聴者は適正な音量で視聴するために音量を操作しなくてはならず,視聴者にとって不便を生じている。そこで実際の放送において,
1.同一チャンネル内の番組の間で音量のレベル差がどのくらいあるのか,
2.チャンネル間の音量のレベル差がどのくらいあるのか,
の二点について実態の調査をした。
●英訳
Recent years have witnessed the digitalization of broadcasts all over the world, and it is indeed an age of revolution for the broadcast media. New services such as high-resolution video and interactive functions are now offered to the audience, and even in case of audio, high value-added services such as 5.1 sound are now being provided.
Programs of different genres such as news, sports, drama, variety, music programs are constantly produced. Moreover, there is a sharp increase in the number of programs broadcasted due to the increase in channels in terrestrial broadcasts, BS, CS, and TV. In such a scenario, there is a difference in the level of audio depending upon the program and the channel, and hence when the viewers change the channel or the program, they have to adjust the volume in order to hear the program at an appropriate volume.
This difference in the volume across programs is said to occur at the production stage in the broadcasting station or the production house. In order to solve this problem, we surveyed about the following four items:
1. The reality regarding difference in audio across channels and across programs
2. Channel-wise and program-wise audio weighting and method of allocation of VU-scale
3. Relation between the monitoring audio and mixing balance at the mixing stage
4. Volume of the television in the homes of the viewers
As a result of this, it was possible to recommend a specific policy to create mixing where narration and BGM are appropriately balanced, and a method to produce audio that reduces the difference in the audio level across programs. By adopting these policies, it is possible to produce programs that give a better listening experience to the viewers.
Reality of the difference between audio levels across programs and channels
When watching television at home, viewers experience a difference in the volume when they change the channel or the program. In order to view the program at an appropriate volume, they need to adjust the volume every time, thus causing them inconvenience. We further did some survey regarding the difference in audio level in case of
1. different programs on the channel
2. different channels.
